Constrained Path Optimisation for Underground Mine Layout

چکیده
The major infrastructure component required to develop an underground mine is a decline, which is a system of tunnels used for access and haulage. In this paper we study the problem of designing a decline of minimum cost where cost is a combination of development and haulage costs over the life of the mine. A key design consideration is that the decline must be navigable to trucks and mining equipment, hence must satisfy a gradient and turning circle constraint. The decline is modelled as a mathematical network that captures the operational constraints and costs of a real mine, and is optimised using geometric techniques for constrained path optimisation. This procedure to find the optimal decline has been automated in a new version of a software tool, Decline Optimisation Tool, DOT. A case study is described comparing this version with the

Access Optimisation Tools in Underground Mine Design
Optimisation tools which determine the best layout for access and haulage in an underground mine address an important and difficult mine design problem. The complexity of the problem can be compared to the task of optimising the final pit design in an open pit, together with the pit haul roads required. The strategic design of an underground mine layout must address the location of haulage shaf...
متن کاملChoosing the Optimum Underground Mine Layout with Regard to Metal Price Uncertainty Using Expected Utility Theory
Metal price is one of the most important parameters in the calculation of cut- off grade. The cut- off grade has the main role in determination of mine layout. Mine layout actuates mineable reserve, mine life and economic profitability. Not considering the uncertainty in metal prices can lead to a non-optimal layout. In this paper optimum underground mine layout is determined by expected utilit...
متن کاملNetwork modelling of underground mine layout: two case studies
The dominant working structure of an underground mine is a set of interconnected tunnels which provides access to ore zones and haulage of ore from the designated ore zones to the mill. This set of interconnected tunnels forms a network. We describe a mathematical network model and the modelling features of our two software tools for designing underground mine layouts that minimise associated c...
متن کاملApplication of Sequential Gaussian Conditional Simulation to Underground Mine Design Under Grade Uncertainty
In mining projects, all uncertainties associated with a project must be considered to determine the feasibility study. Grade uncertainty is one of the major components of technical uncertainty that affects the variability of the project. Geostatistical simulation, as a reliable approach, is the most widely used method to quantify risk analysis to overcome the drawbacks of the estimation methods...
متن کاملIntegrated optimization of underground mine design and scheduling
It is well recognized that software tools for strategic underground mine planning are lacking, and that the demand for these tools will increase as deeper deposits amenable to underground mining continue to grow in value. While a number of optimization techniques have been developed for stope layout design and progress continues to be made in the area of production scheduling, both of these min...
